FamilyRoots is a private family-tree service designed to help families preserve their relationships, history and stories across generations.

Information stored in FamilyRoots

Family information is contributed by approved family members.

Depending on what family members choose to add, FamilyRoots may store:

FamilyRoots is not intended for storing sensitive information such as medical records, financial information, government identification numbers, passwords, or private contact details.

Account information

FamilyRoots uses Google sign-in to authenticate users.

Authentication may involve account information such as your name, email address and the identifiers required to securely manage your account and access to FamilyRoots.

How family information is added

Family information is contributed and maintained by approved members of each family.

Family administrators and authorised contributors are responsible for deciding what family-history information is added and for keeping that information appropriate and accurate.

LaunchCraft Web provides and maintains the FamilyRoots technology. LaunchCraft Web does not independently research, verify or routinely review family information entered by family members.

Who can access family information

Family trees are private.

Access is limited to authenticated users who have been approved for that family.

Different access roles may allow approved members to view or contribute to family information.

Possessing the website address alone does not provide access to the private family tree.

How information is used

Family information is used only to provide and maintain the FamilyRoots service, including displaying the family tree, relationships, family history and related features.

FamilyRoots does not sell family information.

Storage and security

FamilyRoots uses cloud infrastructure to operate the service.

Each FamilyRoots customer has an isolated application deployment and database.

Reasonable technical measures are used to protect access to family information, including authentication, access approval and role-based permissions.

No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security.

Keeping information accurate

Family information is maintained by the approved members of each family. Contributors and administrators with appropriate permissions can update information within FamilyRoots.

LaunchCraft Web does not routinely access, verify or edit family-tree information on behalf of families.

If information about you is inaccurate, please contact the administrator of the relevant FamilyRoots family so that an authorised family member can review and update it.

Correcting or removing family information

Family-tree information is managed by the approved members of each family.

If you would like information about you corrected or removed, please contact the administrator of the relevant FamilyRoots family. An authorised family administrator or contributor can make appropriate changes using FamilyRoots.

LaunchCraft Web does not routinely access or edit individual family-tree records on behalf of families.

The FamilyRoots customer may contact LaunchCraft Web regarding service-level requests, including closure of their FamilyRoots service and deletion of the associated deployment and family database.

Children

Family trees may include information about children as part of recording family relationships.

Family members should limit information about children to what is reasonably necessary for the family tree and should avoid entering sensitive or unnecessary private information.

Service providers

FamilyRoots uses service providers necessary to operate the service, including Cloudflare for application/database infrastructure and Google for authentication.
